Often the job was just that – a job, for which you had no emotional connection. If you were one of the fortunate few, it was more than a paycheck and offered some fulfillment as well.
So, before you retire, build a list of things you want to spend time doing. Make it long. Make it ridiculous. Make it seem frivolous. It doesn’t matter. This list is your map.
If you have questions, the answer is always inside. When lost, you may look outside, but the path home is inside. Know where to look.
If you listen to Olympians, or national champions, or Chess Grandmasters, anyone who has worked towards a single goal for a very long time, they all experience this.
Human beings need to grow. Whether it’s mentally or physically, growth is important. Weightlifting causes muscle growth. When you quit lifting, your body loses muscle. Muscle is calorically expensive, and our body doesn't want to carry unnecessary weight.
This is interesting because it shows how retirement changes you. You leave work, where you stored much of your identity, yet you're not that person. Hard transition.
