The Sunday Best (08/07/2022)

The Sunday Best is a collection of articles I’ve curated from the furthest reaches of the internet for your reading pleasure.

Every week, I scan hundreds of headlines, read dozens of posts, and bring you the best of the best to save you time and mental energy.

Financial Independence (FI) is a primary focus, but it’s an awfully broad topic. I tend to approach FI and early retirement from a fatFIRE perspective and through the lens of a physician, so expect to see those biases in the selected articles.

Related topics that have become recurrent themes include early retirement, selective frugality, tax issues, travel, physician issues, and of course, investing.

For more great articles, take a peek at The Sunday Best Archives. Now let’s get to the best… The Sunday Best!

The FI Physician is more like 13 weeks into his retirement, and he contemplates what comes after The Honeymoon Phase of Early Retirement.

ESI Money is well past the honeymoon phase, having left his marketing career six years ago, but I still think it’s too early to be spending so much time in The Villages! Retirement Update: 6 Years.

Is real estate about to lose some serious value? Ben Carlson with A Wealth of Common Sense doesn’t think so. Is Housing a Bubble Waiting to Pop?

Most “generational wealth” fails to last more than a few generations. Adam Grossman with Humble Dollar shares some advice for avoiding the “shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves” phenomenon. Staying Rich.

The Rich have the luxury of sailing the high seas for months at a time. Actually, as the FI Heroes show us, it doesn’t take all that much money, after all. Our 90 Day Cruise, Part I: the Back to Back Experience.

While they were busy visiting countries around the world, the Monevator got busy looking at CAPE ratios around the world and what they mean. CAPE ratio by country: how to find and use global stock valuation data.

On your deathbed, will you regret investing in the market when the CAPE ratio was 28? Probably not, says Dr. Jordan Grumet, author of Taking Stock. What really matters in Next Level FIRE.

46% Annual Return After Fees with DLP

DLP2021 was an outstanding year for investors in site sponsor DLP’s Housing Fund, and the first half of 2022 has been strong, as well!

The fund’s valuation was updated to a 22.25% positive NAV adjustment, representing a 2021 net return to investors to 45.57% for the calendar year 2021. That’s just one of a handful of funds they have to offer the accredited investor.

DLP Capital also puts on some outstanding events, a couple of which my wife and I have attended. You can join them at the next one in a couple of weeks, either in-person or virtually, to learn more about the funds, their performance history, and the latest earnings reports.

If you’d like to learn more DLP’s purpose-driven path and their five private real estate funds, join them online or in person in the Dallas / Fort Worth area later this month. This complimentary happy hour and dinner will feature a presentation by CEO and Founder Don Wenner, who will provide exclusive insight into our latest earnings reports and plans for growth. DLP offers the following funds:
