Redeeming rewards is hassle-free, with options like cash back as a statement credit or check. You can also set up automatic redemptions if you’re the forgetful type, and there’s no minimum redemption amount.

For a no-annual-fee card, the Quicksilver comes with some handy benefits, including travel accident insurance, extended warranty, security features, and account management tools. The easy-to-use Capital One app also lets you track spending, make payments, and redeem cash back.

Just be mindful of the credit score requirement. The Quicksilver Card requires a good to excellent credit of 690 or higher so, check your score before diving in.

Capital One Quicksilver Vs. SavorOne: Detailed Comparison

Rewards structure

While Quicksilver and SavorOne have plenty in common, the main difference lies in the reward structure.

The Quicksilver Card is ideal if you prefer the no-frills approach. There’s no need to keep track of various reward categories—it’s just a flat 1.5% cash back on every purchase. You also get 5% on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.

It’s not the most flashy rewards system, but you’re always guaranteed cash back if you spend a lot in different categories. And when pairing it with other cards, it’s a great ‘everything else credit card.’

Of course, the downside is there isn’t much room to maximize your rewards, especially if you spend a lot on one particular category.

And that’s why I lean towards the SavorOne. I admit I spend a good chunk towards dining out, so it’s nice to ease the guilt by being rewarded for my indulgences.

Here’s a breakdown of the SavorOne rewards and what each category includes:

  • 3% on dining: Restaurants, cafes, bars, lounges, fast-food chains, and bakeries.
  • 3% on entertainment: Ticket purchases at movie theaters, sports promoters, theatrical promoters, amusement parks, tourist attractions, aquariums, zoos, dance halls, record stores, pool halls, or bowling alleys.
  • 3% on streaming: Eligible music and video streaming services like Netflix®, Hulu®, and Disney+.
  • 3% on grocery stores: Supermarkets, meat lockers, freezers, dairy product stores, and specialty markets.

The rewards flexibility is impressive. The entertainment category alone can help you rack up plenty of cash back on larger purchases like theme park tickets and tourist attractions.

But it doesn’t cover everything. The most disappointing exclusion is superstores like Walmart® and Target® from the grocery category. And the streaming category doesn’t include Prime Video, so I’ll be missing out on cash back for that $8.99 monthly membership.

That said, having bonus categories lets you maximize your rewards. And it’s easy, eat out, binge your favorite shows, and go big for the Thanksgiving meal to see your cash back soar. Just make sure you pay off all your balance on time, and you’re practically getting free cash for your usual spending.

Tip: Pick up the tab when dining or enjoying drinks with friends – you get all the cash back, and they can pay you back through apps like Venmo.

Fees and interest rates

There’s not much to compare here as the fees are identical. Both cards have no annual or foreign transaction fees, making them a budget-friendly option at home and abroad.

One of the most handy features is that both cards come with a 0% introductory APR for both balance transfers and purchases, spanning a generous 15 months. So, you can transfer balances from cards with higher interest rates or make large purchases without getting hit with interest charges.

But don’t lose track of time; after the intro period, rates can range from 19.99% to 29.99%, depending on your creditworthiness.

Sign up bonus

Another similarity is both cards offer a $200 cash bonus after you spend $500 on purchases within three months from account opening.

This welcome offer joins the long list of budget cash back cards offering a $200 bonus. So while it’s nothing to shout about, it gets props for having an achievable spending requirement.

Cards like the Citi Custom Cash® Card and Citi Double Cash® Card offer a $200 bonus but have a higher spending requirement of $1,500 in six months. And Capital One QuicksilverOne skips the sign-up bonus altogether.

Redemption options

Redeeming your rewards on both cards is flexible and hassle-free. There’s no minimum amount, and your rewards never expire, so you can accumulate them for that future splurge.

All you need to do is access your online account and head to ‘Rewards Balance’ to explore your various options. My pick would be cash back, which you can get via statement credit or a check. But keep in mind that opting for a statement credit could reduce your outstanding balance.

The simplicity of Capital One’s redemption system takes away any confusion over values; one dollar is valued at one dollar.

Here are all the redemption options:

  • Cash back: Request a statement credit or check, with the option to establish automatic redemptions at a predetermined time or upon reaching a specific threshold.
  • PayPal: Link your SavorOne card to your PayPal account, using your rewards to make online purchases through the platform.
  • Amazon: Utilize the Shop with Points feature at Amazon.com, linking your SavorOne card and paying with rewards at the checkout.
  • Gift cards: Explore a diverse range of gift cards on the Capital One app, covering categories such as retail, dining, hotels, and groceries.
  • Charity: Contribute to charitable causes by donating your rewards, with the Eno chatbot facilitating easy tracking of all contributions.
  • Capital One Travel: Use your rewards to book hotels and flights with low-price guarantees.

Last-minute birthday presents are familiar territory for me, but while those gift cards look tempting, I’d recommend sticking with cash back. That way, you’re free to spend on anything you like without being held back by particular brands.

Benefits and perks

Both the Quicksilver and SavorOne come with an impressive range of perks and protection, especially given you don’t have to pay anything in annual fees.

Here are the benefits you can find on both cards:

Benefit Details
Extended warranty Get extended warranty protection on eligible items you purchase with your card.
Travel accident insurance Receive automatic insurance for a covered loss at no extra cost when using your card to buy your fare.
Complimentary concierge service Access personalized assistance for all your dining, entertainment, and travel plans—24 hours a day, all year round.
24-hour travel assistance services Get an emergency replacement card and a cash advance if your credit card is lost or stolen.
50% off handcrafted beverages Enjoy 50% off all drinks at any Capital One Café nationwide.
$0 fraud liability If your card is lost or stolen, you won’t be responsible for any unauthorized charges.
Eno chatbot assistance Eno lets you pay with virtual card numbers to protect your real card number. The chatbot also sends alerts for any mistakes or unexpected charges on your account.

Alongside these benefits, you can access Capital One perks across shopping, travel, entertainment, and dining.

Here’s the lowdown:

  • Capital One Shopping: Get coupon codes added to your order automatically when online shopping.
  • Capital One Travel: Compare prices, get low-cost guarantees, and use your rewards to book flights and hotels.
  • Capital One Entertainment: Earn 8% cash back when booking through Capital One Entertainment for sports events, concerts, and award-winning restaurants.
  • Capital One Dining: Access cardholder-only reservations to top restaurants and culinary events.

I’m often guilty of overlooking the perks of no-annual-fee cards – that would be a mistake here. Taking advantage of all these benefits is a great way to maximize the value of your card without spending a dime.

Card requirements

Both cards require good to excellent credit to seal the deal. So, if you’re considering applying, you should aim for a score of around 690 or higher to boost your chances.

And there’s another obstacle, you can only have two personal Capital One cards. If you already have a couple of personal Capital One cards in your wallet, you won’t be able to apply for the Quicksilver or SavorOne.

Plus, you can only get approved for a card every six months. Issuers like Amex and Chase also have rules around credit card application, but Capital One takes the cake for the most rigid timing restrictions.

If you’ve got excellent credit, take a look at the Capital One Spark Cash Select Business.

Which Is Better: Quicksilver or SavorOne?

If you prefer simplicity and consistency, the Quicksilver card is the way to go. But if you spend a lot in specific bonus categories like dining and entertainment, the SavorOne card could help you maximize your rewards. Ultimately, the choice depends on your spending habits and preferences.

To sum up, the Quicksilver card is right for you if:

  • You want a straightforward approach to credit card rewards and don’t want to spend time figuring out bonus categories.
  • You have an existing rewards card and want an ‘everything else’ option for all other purchases.

Apply for the Capital One Quicksilver.

And the SavorOne (my personal favorite) would be better if:

  • Your spending habits align with the rewards; you enjoy dining out, going to concerts, or streaming your favorite shows.
  • You want the opportunity to maximize the value of your credit card through cash back rewards.

Apply for the Capital One SavorOne.

FAQ

What’s the difference between Quicksilver and Savor One?

Both cards have no annual fee, simple redemption options, and Capital One perks. But you can find the real differences in the reward system.

The Quicksilver card offers a simple, flat-rate cash back of 1.5% on all purchases, perfect for those who prefer straightforward rewards without the hassle of tracking bonus categories.

On the other hand, the SavorOne card provides 3% cash back on dining, entertainment, popular streaming services, and grocery stores. So it’s a great option for those who spend a lot in these areas.

Ultimately, it comes down to whether you prioritize simplicity or maximizing rewards in specific spending categories.

How to upgrade Capital One Quicksilver to Savor One?

Capital One can restrict which cards you can upgrade, with many cardholders claiming they couldn’t upgrade from Quicksilver to the SavorOne.

However, there are some exceptions, so it’s worth a try. Here are four simple steps to follow:

  1. Contact Capital One: Reach out to Capital One by phone or through their website to show your interest in upgrading your Quicksilver card to the SavorOne card.
  2. Check eligibility: Ask Capital One about the eligibility criteria for upgrading your card. The team will look at your profile to see which upgrades are available for you.
  3. Submit your request: Once you confirm your eligibility, follow the instructions provided by Capital One to request the upgrade from Quicksilver to SavorOne.
  4. Review updated terms: After submitting your request, carefully review any changes to the fine print, such as APR adjustments or welcome bonuses associated with the SavorOne card.

Capital One Savor vs. Quicksilver: Which is better?

The Savor card offers 4% cash back rates in dining, entertainment, and streaming services, and 3% at grocery stores. You also get a higher welcome bonus of $300, but only after spending $3,000 in the first three months. However, the downside is that this comes with a $95 annual fee and no intro APR.

The Quicksilver card provides a flat 1.5% cash back on all purchases, making it simple for those who prefer consistent rewards without the hassle of tracking bonus categories. You get a $200 bonus after spending $500 in three months and a 0% APR for the first 15 months. All this for no annual fee.

Which one’s better? It depends on your spending habits and what you value in a credit card. If you spend a lot in the bonus categories offered by the Savor card, you could really maximize your rewards. But if you prefer simplicity and consistency, the Quicksilver card might be the better choice.

Our Methodology

Our credit card reviews aim to provide a comprehensive assessment of both quantitative and qualitative factors.

The quantitative analysis focuses on the financial costs and benefits associated with each card, including interest rates, fees, rewards programs, cash back offers, and other monetary perks. However, we also consider qualitative aspects that impact the everyday use and value of the card.

These include the simplicity of the application process, the structure of the rewards program, the likelihood of utilizing certain card features, and the suitability of the card for frequent or infrequent use.

Our On FIRE rating system allows for quick comparisons between cards within a particular category. When choosing a new credit card, consumers should weigh the quantitative dollar amounts along with qualitative ease-of-use factors to select the best overall option for their needs.
