The Sunday Best

The Sunday Best
The Sunday Best is a collection of articles I’ve curated for your reading pleasure.

Expect most of the writing to be from recent weeks and consistent with the themes presented on this website: investing & taxes, financial independence, early retirement, and physician issues.

Presenting, this week’s Sunday Best:

C’mon, get happy! I had a great chat with The Happy Doc, a.k.a. Dr. Taylor Brana, in this podcast recording: Achieving Financial Independence with Physician on FIRE.

I just wrapped up two weeks without getting behind the wheel of an automobile. In November, it was three weeks. And it’s finally nice enough that I’m comfortable riding my e-bike to work. Scott @ Making Momentum doesn’t bike or drive. Walking to Work for 4 Years — The Money, Health & Mind Benefits.

Do you earn a high income? Has Tax Freedom Day 2018 arrived for you? The Millionaire Doc realizes we are facing A Tax on Time.

My job not only keeps me paying high taxes (although I am saving about $60,000 working less), but it also limits us to living in one place. Laurie of the Three Year Experiment has plans for a location independent life. Your Complete Guide to Location Independence for Families.

The stock market hasn’t been on a tear this year, but it’s been awfully good to us since the… ummm… hiccup back in 2008 and 2009. Mr. Crazy Kicks ponders our good fortune and what to do next in Is the Stock Market Getting Too High?

If you’ve got reservations when contemplating investing in the stock market, perhaps it’s time to look to real estate. Dr. Pamela Starnes of Physician REI has a guide for you. Getting Started with Real Estate.

I’m not the only one talking up the benefits of a Three Fund Portfolio. Did you download your spreadsheet yet? Chelsea at Mama Fish Saves wrote a handy FAQ on the topic. Perhaps one of your questions will be answered in Frequently Asked Questions About the Three Fund Portfolio.

The fatFIRE concept that I touched on a few weeks ago is en fuego. From Lily (but not Gene) @ The Frugal Gene comes a witty and fun take. What Fatty Fatty Fat FatFIRE Looks Like To Me.

Happy Mother’s Day!

To my wife, my mother, and hard-working mothers around the world, thank you for all that you do!

We’ve been traveling for the last two weeks and we’re about to board our third flight in 18 hours this morning to get home. Well, not straight home. First, we’ll drive the two hours to visit my mother before finally heading home.

Our boys travel really well, and it’s partially due to experience — we’ve been traveling since they were born — but mostly due to the way their mother keeps them organized, entertained, appropriately disciplined, and loved.

Take some time to recognize the mothers in your life today.

Have a great spring week!

  3. Good spread as always, POF.

I am all about simplicity. My 403B doesn’t allow me to have a three fund portfolio, but I do my best to keep things as simple as possible. That way achieving FATfire will be easier for me as I simply don’t touch it.

Hope you all had safe travels. Looking forward to hearing all about it!
